Roles and research

strength

Joining us as a professor in the business and management field means becoming part of our triple-accredited Business School – a globally recognised standard of excellence in business and management education.

We are particularly interested in professors with research expertise in the following areas:

  • Enterprise and Entrepreneurship
  • Digital Marketing
  • International Business
  • Finance

Our Business School is home to globally recognised research in critical areas such as place management, decent work and productivity, and sustainability.

Our research environment was ranked in the top quartile (REF 2021) and is distinguished by its commitment to nurturing early and mid-career researchers through a culture of collaboration and mentorship.

Our global research impact

We collaborate extensively at the regional, national and international levels with public, private and third-sector organisations, as well as policymakers, securing substantial funding from bodies such as ERSC, The Leverhulme Trust and NIHR, alongside partnerships with the UK Government and leading industries.

Our research is internationally recognised for shaping government thinking and influencing key legislative and strategic initiatives across multiple sectors. Our research in decent work and productivity has informed policies to improve workplace standards and practices. Our pioneering research in place management has been instrumental in the revitalisation of cities and communities. This is most notably seen through our leadership of the UK Government’s £8.6 million High Streets Task Force, directed by the globally acclaimed Institute of Place Management.

Sustainability research includes a recent £1m + ERSC grant to investigate projects and organisations in Greater Manchester and international cities that bring environmental benefits (e.g. reducing waste and pollution, using fewer resources, regenerating natural capital), where social justice and wellbeing are central, and where outputs, outcomes and approaches are inclusive and participatory.

In knowledge exchange, our Centre of Enterprise has secured approximately £40m in funding in recent years, supporting over 2,000 SMEs in adopting emerging technologies to boost productivity and creative more than 500 new jobs. These initiatives underscore our role in driving economic growth and fostering innovation across sectors.
